Due to doing most of my work digitally I have decided to include all of my visuals on a blog post instead of printing them off for my sketch book. This is because I have done some of them twice and they have all be edited a lot on photoshop.
Facade
The image above is taken from sketch up and then edited on photoshop to add the water however it looks really bland as there is not background and therefore no context. Because of this I added the facade into an image of Park Hill to give it context with its surroundings. I much prefer this image. (Below).
Entrance
Although I didn’t redesign the entrance I had to make another visual as I changed the concrete (after learning how to add my own textures int sketch up) and changed the netting above therefore making the visual false. I did add some more greenery and some fairy lights around the welcome sign to make it more magical as an experience.
Toilets.
I didn’t want plain toilets because it wanted them to fit with the theme of the rest of the project so I used materials such as concrete to fit in with the rest and made the women’s and men’s very different. the women’s is much more feminine and the mans more masculine however I tried to add something in each which contradicts this, in the woman this is the harsh squares of the tiles and in the mans it is the softness of the floor tiles.

Cafe & Counter
I mostly kept to my original design in the cafe however I re-did the visual because I wanted to add some tiles and the different concrete wall. I also added scenery of Sheffield from Park Hill in the new visual. The counter has been kept the same.

Stairs
The stairs had one of the biggest changes in design because of the regulations. in the first design I read up on rise and going and therefore thought it was to regulations however if found out after you can only have 16 stairs in a set and this had 19 and also that for a Childs safety there can only be a gap of 100mm and this had a 200mm gap. this made me rethink my whole design, I put the stairs on a platform to limit the amount in the staircase to 16, kept the same rise and going. I then redesigned it without the gaps in it. I am still bothered by this visual because I couldn’t manage to to add a handrail in sketch up therefore had to try and add one in photoshop but it still doesn’t look quite right.
Reading Area 1
This reading area is the first one you see, I was lucky that on the 3D warehouse they already had chairs the exact same as my design in my sketchbook, this is the only place you can see the plant wall that extends across the wall and down into the entrance, this is because of the angles of the other visuals.
Reading Area 2
There is not loads to this visual however it shows what is inside a pod that can be seen in some of the other visuals. It helps put peoples minds to peace.
Reading Area 3
This was a massive challenge because I had a idea in my head and didn’t know how to visualise it. I found the netting on 3d warehouse however it would be painful to sit on because of the plastic bits but at this point I didn’t know how to show it any other way so I added blankets. It is also unsafe as there is people walking below and something could be dropped and harm the person or at the side of the netting a foot could go through.
To combat this is redesigned. I added strong glass underneath to add safety but keep the feel of floating and then added a smaller net on top for comfort and did this adding a texture on and then lowering the opacity.
Bookshelves
I think the people make this visual what it is.
All in all I am happy with my project, there was a point I was unsure because I didn’t like some of my visuals however since I re-did them I am very happy.
I am a little disappointed with my sketchbook because I feel my thoughts aren’t communicated well enough as a lot of them occurred working on the computer rather than in the sketch book as I find it easier to work digitally.
I have learnt so much more in this project than the last one, and I have kept learning all the way through until the end of the project which has been frustrating because it means I have forced myself to work really hard to change things as I learnt how to add textures and learnt more about regulations.
